Neill Rea hails from Taranaki and Northland and is of Pākeha, Irish and Scottish descent. He is a graduate of both Toi Whakaari: The NZ Drama School and Victoria University of Wellington. Since leaving Toi Whakaari, Neill has worked as a professional actor throughout Film, Television and Theatre. He is perhaps best known as the lead character Mike Shepherd in The Brokenwood Mysteries - a quirky murder show that has filmed a record 10 seasons and has sold to numerous overseas territories.
Neill loves spending time with family, friends and his vinyl collection but not necessarily in that order. Running in tandem with his acting, Neill has worked extensively behind the scenes as a Casting Director and is dipping his toes into the Directing pool.
